Hi, I found your picture through:iconprojectcomment: 's weekly commenting project,
You captured a lovely scene here and applied the rule of thirds wonderfully in the doing thereof. My eye roams this scene quite readily and I find myself looking for hidden objects or critters. This has that magic garden vibe to it, so it evokes a lot of my curiosity and makes me feel adventurous. For me, this is always a huge plus in an image. I think part of what makes me feel like this is the little reflection of light on the leaves to the southeast corner. The play of light and shadow is very nice there, and that made me look around more and more.
To improve even more, I think you should try playing with you shutter speed to get some more exposure. You might also try playing with contrast a little. I'm no expert with a camera and cell phones are notorious for not doing justice to the subject matter that you are taking a picture of. That being said, I just saw some amazing pictures where the photographer took pictures with varied longer shutter speed and other adjustments. You might benefit from seeing what he has to say on some of his pictures: etherealsceneries.deviantart.c…  Even if you aren't able to learn much, he does have a fantastic gallery. Speaking from some experience in having a camera shutter open longer, a tripod of some sort is a wonderful investment if you want to get serious about photography. I have found that my hands sometimes shake slightly, which can utterly ruin what might have been a gorgeous sunset photo.
That's all I can offer, so I hope some of that is useful. Have a marvelous day and keep making art!

Hey there! I've come from over at ProjectComment

What a beautiful place, like something out of a fantasy story. You've staged it quite well, each element leading the eye to the horizon and the lightest point of the photo. You've naturally got an eye or perhaps already know of the rule of thirds. So, great job! The point that I'm going to introduce gets a bit technical and I am by no means an expert. I get that on an iPhone its complicated to get the lighting right compared to a dedicated camera. This is because in order to do this you need to adjust shutter speed along with aperture and ISO.  to suit the natural light. You have a scene with interesting light except there isn't enough contrast in certain places to capture how the eye perceives it. I look at this and think that what you actually saw was a lot more magical and beautiful than what has come out of the camera. That's simply the mechanics of the eye, learning more about what I've mentioned above will show how to capture the illusive beauty our eyes see in the moment. Overall a nice scene that could be improved with better use of light but a good composition!

Thank you for the constructive criticism! I was satisfied with the end result, but not amazed with it like you explained right there. I saw something a little more beautiful than what this picture shows. I'll look into all that you mentioned to try and improve my next pictures!

Wow, I honestly didn't know phones could take photos this good. :o (Eek)

The lighting is amazing, dark at the start and bright at the end... the way the light glows through some of the trees and bushes is almost mystical. the pathway and the unusually shaped trees (kind of like some of the ones affected by the strong winds here in New Zealand... heh.) add to the effect as well.

You captured a perfect moment in time. this is definitely going into my favourites!

Thank you so much!! It was actually all on luck that I captured this photo. My camera was bugging out and 4 out of 5 pictures were nothing but darkness I think I've fainted.

Haha I was going for the mystical feel :D
